๐Life coming full circle!๐
And Yoga in Greenpoint - Sat 5/23 10am
Hello again :)
Maybe itโs just me getting older, or my 10+ years spent living in NYC, but Iโve been having these full-circle moments that are making me pinch myself!
A few years ago, I got so into yoga that I was practicing it daily. It all began as a way to get myself grounded into my body before I went to work. I had this very elaborate morning routine of morning pages, then a yoga sequence followed by meditation. Iโm so impressed at this person! Who was she?!
Looking back though, I know I kept the routine up because it worked for me. I had such a drive to change my state; the stress and instability from the unknown at work (if youโre a freelancer and/or if you work on location, you get this) and finding my voice from years of people-pleasing habits.
I found the best way to work through this and change, was to find my center; to ground and anchor myself and my energy, so that I could bend and sway when needed without losing myself in the process.
I never knew that this passion for connection and body awareness would lead me to getting a monthly membership at my local studio Dou Yoga. I thought I was just fine practicing solo, but I missed being in community. And I never pictured myself being upfront, teaching a class, but when I saw the teacher training advertised, I just knew in my gut the time was right. And now, Iโm teaching donation community classes there.
The same week I graduated from teacher training, I was in Hawaii, working on an Athleta Campaign featuring an incredible Yogi Mika Soltes (if you find yourself in Oโahu go to one of her classes!). Talk about pinch me! Iโm flown to Hawaii to work in one of my favorite places in the world, styling the hair of inspirational athletes and talent. Getting to watch them doing their craft in such a breathtaking setting gave me goosebumps, especially the filming of Mikaโs sunrise yoga sequence below.
And finally, this weekend the circle wraps around again as I am teaching at one of my favorite places in NYC. The ambiance of this special space, tucked away from the street and lit from skylights is magical. Iโve been doing pilates there each weekend, and this Saturday, I am covering for my teacher Monika and will teach yoga.
So if youโre in town this holiday weekend, come practice in community:
10am Saturday May 23
The class is very beginner friendly. BYO Mat and water bottle and leave the rest to me!
$30 - RSVP for location address and to save your spot: adlena@adlenadignam.com
And if you canโt make it, one of my favorite poses for practicing grounding and centering is Tree pose. You can play with spreading your arm branches while focusing on your center and stability, grounding your standing leg to the earth.
